I think it's better to give nothing than to show how much you don't listen and don't care. Just because it's expensive and cliche doesn't mean it wasn't a horrible gift.

I clicked the flashy ad today! Also, I may need to consume large amounts of alcohol within the next couple of days--perhaps even on a work night. You mentioned you also need to drink some liquor--shall we make a date? This lady needs some booze. :(
